Parc de la Ciutadella

Our last sightseeing was very spontaneous and we really weren’t expecting anything from Parc de la Ciutadella- boy were we wrong.

Before going to the park, we stopped by a local tapas restaurant next to our AirBnb called ‘Bar Celta Pulperia’. It had amazing reviews online and we had to try authentic Spanish tapas. We opted for the two most popular dishes: octopus and razor clam. The octopus was drizzled in oil and sprinkled with paprika, the razor clams were cooked in a garlic sauce. The octopus was chewy and firm and the razor clam was unlike anything I’ve had before. My favourite was the octopus, but it definitely needed a spritz of fresh lemon and spicy chilly.

The park was a short 2 minute walk from the tapas bar and it was beautiful. The further we delved into the park the more peaceful and beautiful it became. We came across Cascada Monumental and it was so stunning. It had wide steps and a golden arch, a perfect spot for a photoshoot. There was also a huge mammoth sculpture that literally had a queue of people waiting to take a picture. In the centre was a lake where you could go rowing, a zoo, museums and ample space to relax or exercise. One thing we noticed in Barcelona is how fit everyone was. No matter where we went, there was always people exercising whether it was running, yoga or other group exercises. No wonder everyone is so toned.

This concludes my birthday trip to Barcelona. It was a really nice, chilled trip and I’m so glad we had plenty of time to see everything we wanted to see. No day was rushed or over-planned, we went with the flow and saw more sights than expected. That’s the best thing about travelling, if you wander around without a map you see the most amazing things. Plus our Airbnb was in the best location and our host was the loveliest lady ever. She made us feel like we were part of her family and despite the huge language barrier (she couldn’t speak English and us Spanish) we were still able to communicate through laughs, smiles and kindness (as cheesy as it sounds). So here’s to Barcelona, muchas gracias por la hospitalidad. Hasta que nos encontremos de nuevo.
