Cay Tre, Soho | Review
Cay Tre is one of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants.
My go to dish is the bun noodles with prawn, but this time I thought I’d change it up and go for the veg pho. Boy did I make a mistake. As a vegetarian, we already have very limited options so it wasn’t surprising to see only one veg option for the pho, but it would’ve been nice to have at least two.
We ordered veg pho, chicken pho and summer prawn rolls.
So how was the food?
The veg pho was bland as bland can be. I probably put in 5 ladles of Sriracha to get some type of flavour. The pak choy and mushroom were nice and fresh as well as the beansprouts. Whilst I was eating, I was thinking about the pho at Pho. They give you a lot more sides to add into the pho, have more veg options and they also have more condiment choices, the best being their garlic vinegar. Another thing, Cay Tre needs to add a veg pho option to their pre-theatre meal, or give the option to substitute the meat pho with a veg dish. Honestly, restaurants need to catch up with vegetarians and vegans.
Overall, the pho was a huge disappointment. The summer roll wasn’t bad, it was fresh and delicious but needed some flavour. All together with drinks the entire meal came to £38.
